Overview[]
Hidden Abilities are special abilities that replace a Pokémon's normal Ability. They can be used in Fusions to give the resultant Fusion Pokémon the Hidden Ability of it's component Pokémon. However; If the Fusion Pokémon is Unfused, both component Pokémon will no longer have their Hidden Ability.
Obtaining[]
There are two primary ways to attain Pokémon with their Hidden Abilities.
Outbreaks[]
In order to unlock Outbreaks, the player must have defeated Brock and then moved onto Route 3. Doing so will cause a cutscene in which Professor Oak's Assistant will direct the player to a patch of grass on the Route which contains Pokémon with their Hidden Abilities.After completing this event, a new Outbreak will occur every 1500 steps1 . The area chosen for the Outbreak is randomly decided between areas the player can access. (This includes areas that the player has not yet visited.)
During an Outbreak, every encountered Pokémon has a 50% chance of having their Hidden Ability1.Certain Areas such as Secret Forest and Togepi Island are always under the effects of an Outbreak, and their Pokémon always have a 50% chance of having their Hidden Ability.
The player may determine where the current Outbreak is by visiting the Outbreak Lady in Fuschia City.The item Dream Mirror can be used to determine the location of your current Outbreak as well. The Dream Mirror is available for purchase on Boon Island.
Ability Balls[]
Ability Balls are Unlocked by completing Two unmarked quests for the Incredible Ball Guy in Saffron City. Upon completion of his second quest, the player is given 5 Ability Balls and the capacity to purchase additional Ability Balls from the Incredible Ball Guy's Assistant.
Ability Balls are special Pokéballs with a lower (0.6x) catchrate compared to the standard variant. When a Pokémon is caught with an Ability Ball they are granted their Hidden Ability.Currently, Ability Balls are quite buggy and the Hidden Ability may disappear after certain types of evolution or fusion.
